This course introduces students to the computer keyboard and related hardware in a hands-on approach to the practical use of a computer in their college career. It is designed to show the functions of the keys of a standard computer keyboard, reference the differences to typewriter keyboards, and introduce the student to the proper procedures for producing computer-assisted research with neatly formatted and printed output for their own reference and assignments. Other goals of the course are to educate the student about proper typing techniques and to attain a typing speed of 35 words per minute. English Placement Level: EN 083/084.
This course emphasizes the development of both oral and written skills for effective business communication. It covers intercultural communication, workplace ethics and etiquette, planning, writing and editing business messages, persuasion, negotiation, delivering speeches and making presentations. The course also covers practical skills for communicating in teams, dealing with supervisors, peers, and subordinates in an office environment, resume writing and interviewing skills.

This course focuses on current issues/trends in the workplace, self-assessment, personal development, career exploration, resume writing, effective job interviews, effective communication skills in the world of work, business etiquette, workplace ethics, and on-the-job training that is related to the student's career and educational goals. This work experience course is geared towards enhancing the student's self-awareness and current employment skills: this will be accomplished through course work and actual employment training. The goal of this course is to provide an opportunity to experience a career field and options in the development of a career.
